Central Park welcomes GMP

In what is one of the UK's largest property deals of the year, the Police Authority has agreed to locate Greater Manchester Police Force Headquarters at Central Park. The new 240,000 sq ft Force HQ is scheduled to complete in March 2011, which coincides with the proposed opening of the Metrolink line to the city centre.

Central Park is the UK's first truly urban business park. It covers some 182 ha with a capacity to accommodate up to 500,000 m2 (5,382,100 sq ft) of commercial floorspace, of which the first phase has an outline planning consent for 130,000 m2 (1,400,000 sq ft) of high quality offices. It has superb links to Manchester City Centre and the region's transport networks, including its own Metrolink station, and is destined to become the city's business park.

Since development started, Ask:Goodman has let 275,000 sq ft of Grade A accommodation - 175,000 sq ft occupied by Fujitsu Services, with a further 100,000 sq ft building forming One Central Park, a world class research, development and training centre designed to stimulate job creation and encourage investment in the region

The latest 43,700 sq ft phase, Madison Place, is available in five new office buildings, ranging in size from 5,304 sq ft up to 13,523 sq ft. The Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust has signed up to take the 7,267 sq ft Unit C on a ten year lease.

Additonally, there is space available to accommodate further major design and build requirements in what is now the citiy's premier business park location.


 
Work starts on new Police Divisional HQ in east Manchester

Work starts today on the new £35m Divisional Headquarters for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) at Central Park in Newton Heath in east Manchester, just one and a half miles from Manchester city centre. It will be built next to GMP’s 240,000 sq ft Force Headquarters, which is currently under construction.

Greater Manchester’s chief constable Peter Fahy joined colleagues Councillor Paul Murphy, Chairman of the Greater Manchester Police Authority, Caroline Ball, Chief Superintendent for the North Division, Nigel Allsop from ASK:Goodman, Eddie Smith from New East Manchester, Mike Hollows from the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Richard Jones from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to celebrate the start of work on site.

Chief Constable Peter Fahy said: “This ceremony is a landmark moment in the programme of work to improve the services we are able to provide across north Manchester. This investment is will ensure we continue to meet the policing demands of the area and provide the best possible service to local people. The modern facilities will ensure we are better able to meet the needs of local communities.”

Chief Superintendent for the North Manchester Division, Caroline Ball, said: “Today marks the beginning of the future for the North Manchester Division with new facilities for officers and staff right in the heart of the communities we serve. With the continued presence of Neighbourhood Policing across all areas of the division, we will continue to ensure that north Manchester is a safe place to live in, work in and enjoy.”
